Do You Know That Guy Fawkes..?

Bonfire Night, stars are bright,

Three little angels dressed in white,

Can you eat a biscuit,
Can you smoke a pipe,

Can you go a courting at ten O'clock at night?

The above rhyme is a childhood memory of mine.
This little ditty used to be sung in school at
this time of year when I was a lad.
It always comes into mind on Bonfire Night.

Below is a Photograph I took incorporating a poem
that I wrote about Bonfire Night some years ago.

Stones & Sticks #1...

This is a collaboration cartoon.
I made the artwork and then sent the
image to Adrian Reynolds, a friend of mine who
is a bit of a dab hand with words.
I wanted to see what his response would be and I wasn’t disappointed.
You can check out his talent at

There are Monsters EVERYWHERE...

there are Monsters EVERYWHERE…

they crawl out of your ears
and into your hair
out of your nostrils
and into your clothes
there’s not many places a monster won’t go

there are Monsters EVERYWHERE…

lurking in shadows
under the stairs
hiding in cupboards
sneaking in nooks
if you don’t want to see them you’d better not look

Words 'n' Wordz...

I have been playing a three word poetry game with a few friends of mine.

The concept is this:

You write three words, pass it on, someone else writes three more words and they pass it on, someone else writes the closing three words. There are no strict rules. You could go on and on and have a massive poem but I have found that the three lines are more punchy, powerful and poignant. The hardest job is writing the closing line (the punch line if you like). Anyway it is great fun if you like wordplay. We have done it with six words over three lines too. Here are some of the results! Enjoy.

-

Conquest made sane
Insanity pursues conquest
Conquest buggers all.

-

Boredom pursued happiness
With such vigour
He became happy

-

A tiny grin
Faded into submission
Such was truth.

-

When we connected
Morning had broken
And my hymen

-

The fallen rise
The Berlin wall
The reason falls

-

Motive not apparent
Merely an aspirant
Learning to be.

-

Little, big fish
Filthy shaven perverts
Praise the Bic.

-

It was a classic car tarnished,
Sun cracked, gravel rash and plaque
First time our daughter met crack.

-

I said yes. It meant shit.
So often it had meant something!
A time I asked "did it?"

-

He stole the keys and fled.
Took the soft-top, left the slut.
Slut got house, car wrote off!
